Abuja Women’s Club Inspires Global Literary Movement

The Book & Dessert club, initiated in Abuja by Dr. Somachi Kachikwu and Nma Nzeru, began as a simple idea between two friends seeking meaningful conversations around books.

Over the past decade, it has grown into a global network with 150 members spanning Nigeria, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ghana. The club distinguishes itself by focusing on transformative reading experiences rather than just completing books.

Members engage in discussions that challenge assumptions and broaden perspectives, creating a supportive environment for personal growth. The club has expanded to include multiple chapters in cities such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Toronto, utilizing virtual platforms to ensure geographical barriers do not hinder participation.

The ethos of the club emphasizes that reading is a tool for transformation, fostering a community where women can reflect, support each other, and evolve into better versions of themselves. The initiative has also seen members transition from readers to writers, contributing to a diverse body of work aligned with the club's mission to empower women.
