Urgent Blood Appeal After Borno Airstrike Claims Lives

The Borno State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri has made an urgent appeal for blood donations due to a significant influx of civilian victims following a military airstrike that occurred on Saturday evening, April 11, 2026, in Jilli Village, located along the Borno-Yobe state border. The airstrike reportedly claimed the lives of at least 30 individuals in Gubio Local Government Area. Dr. Shehu Muhammad, the medical director of the hospital, reported that 21 victims have been admitted, comprising five females and 16 males, who sustained injuries from bomb blasts and gunfire. The injuries range from mild to severe, with some requiring immediate surgical operations. While the hospital has sufficient supplies for first aid and initial treatment, there is an urgent need for blood donations to continue providing care for the victims. Dr. Muhammad emphasized the necessity of public donations to meet the ongoing demand for blood as the situation develops.
