Federal University Lokoja Closes Indefinitely After Fatal Accident, Students Ordered to Vacate Amid Protests

The Federal University Lokoja in Kogi State has closed indefinitely following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of seven students. The incident occurred when an articulated truck carrying wood and palm oil lost control and collided with a school shuttle bus, resulting in the tragic deaths.

The university management, led by Dr. Rebecca Aimiohu Okoji, announced the closure after consulting with the state security agency due to student protests and tensions.

The closure was deemed necessary to maintain order and prevent further loss of life. Students were instructed to vacate the campus within one hour of the announcement.

The decision to close the university was made to address the rising tensions and ensure the safety of the students. The closure circular was released on February 20, 2025, instructing students to leave the campus by noon on the same day.
