NDC Aspirant Files EFCC Petition Over N20m Extortion

Dr. Kenneth Okonkwo, an aspirant for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has lodged a petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N20 million extortion by the party.

This development occurred on a Tuesday at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. Okonkwo claims that upon expressing interest in the senatorial candidacy, he was required to pay a mandatory fee of N3 million and subsequently faced demands for additional payments.

He alleges that the NDC's screening committee requested him to sign a legal undertaking waiving his right to seek judicial redress against the party. Okonkwo reported that he was asked to provide extensive financial documentation, including bank statements and asset ownership details, and was pressured to transfer N20 million to secure a nomination slot.

He has since demanded a refund of this amount from the NDC, which he claims has not been returned. Similar allegations have been made by other aspirants, including Obunik Ohaegbu.
