Adamawa State Assembly Grants Governor Power to Appoint Acting Emirs and Chiefs

The Adamawa State Assembly has granted Governor Ahmadu Fintiri the authority to appoint acting Emirs and Chiefs in the state. The bill, passed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, allows the Governor to appoint a prince from the ruling house to act in place of an incapacitated Emir or Chief.

The bill also outlines conditions for the acting appointment, including ceasing once the substantive leader recovers or fails to attend official functions due to ill health. The approval followed a report presented by the House committee, recommending changes to the bill title and emphasizing traditional council consultation before appointments.

Majority Leader Kate Raymond Mamuno moved the bill for a third reading.
