El-Rufai's Wife Claims Phones Bugged Amid Legal Troubles

Hajiya Asia El-Rufai, the second wife of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly raised alarms regarding their safety, claiming that their phones are being monitored. She expressed her fears through a Facebook update, warning that their communication lines are compromised.

This situation arises amid growing concerns over El-Rufai's ongoing detention, which began following a legal challenge on February 12, 2026, when the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly attempted to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja upon his return from Egypt. He has faced allegations of corrupt practices during his tenure as governor, leading to an invitation for questioning by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

Following his voluntary visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters for questioning, he was held in custody for two days before being transferred to the ICPC. El-Rufai was later arraigned on nine counts of fraud and money laundering, with his bail application being granted under strict conditions by a federal high court.
