Tinubu Orders INEC Chairman to Proceed on Terminal Leave

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly instructed INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu to proceed on terminal leave ahead of the end of his tenure. This directive came after Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma raised concerns about Yakubu's alleged support for a new political party disrupting Tinubu's 2027 strategy.

Yakubu, who was first appointed by former President Buhari in 2015, has been asked to suspend official duties immediately. The move has caused disruptions in INEC's schedule, leading to the cancellation of important meetings.

Tinubu is expected to nominate a new INEC chairman to the National Assembly soon.
