Brent Crude Surges Above $88 Amid US-Iran Deal Hopes

On Tuesday, Brent crude oil prices increased to $88.67 per barrel, a rise of $0.95 or 1.08%, as optimism grew regarding a potential agreement between the United States and Iran that could alleviate the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States West Texas Intermediate also saw a gain, rising $0.96 to $83.09 per barrel.

Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, reported that negotiations were progressing towards a peace arrangement, while Qatar confirmed that discussions between Oman and Iran regarding the management of the Strait were at an advanced stage. However, Mohsen Rezaei, the newly appointed secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed unless the United States accepted Iran's conditions, which include ending the war and addressing Iran’s frozen assets.

The situation remains precarious, with new attacks on shipping reported, emphasizing the importance of the Strait of Hormuz as a critical energy corridor.
