Club Brugge Wins 20th Belgian League Title

Club Brugge clinched their 20th Belgian league title on Thursday after a 2-2 draw against Mechelen. This achievement marks their fifth title in seven years.

The draw allowed Brugge to maintain a four-point lead over their closest rival, Union Saint-Gillois, who drew 0-0 with Ghent. This victory ensures that Club Brugge will compete in the Champions League group stage for the third consecutive season.

In the 2025 season, Brugge reached the European round of 16 but lost to future semi-finalist Atletico Madrid. Despite their success, the club faced challenges, including the sacking of coach Nicki Hayen on December 8, who was replaced by Croatian Ivan Leko, previously with Ghent.

Brugge boasted the best attack in Belgium during the regular season, scoring 59 goals, and added 27 in the playoffs, thanks in part to their top two scorers, Greek forward Christo Tzolis and German striker Nicolo Tresoldi, who scored 16 goals each.
