BYM Demands Halt to Open Grazing After Farmland Destruction

The Berom Youth Moulder Association (BYM), led by Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, has called for an immediate cessation of open grazing in Plateau State following reports that herders, suspected to be Fulani, destroyed 100 farmlands in the Riyom Local Government Area on April 21 and 22, 2026.

The association expressed outrage over the calculated destruction of 50 hectares of irrigated farmland, which included various thriving crops. Mwantiri emphasized that the actions of the herders threaten the primary source of livelihood for families and jeopardize food security and economic stability in the region.

Although the Special Task Force (STF) has arrested 21 cows and returned them to the area, BYM stated that this action does not adequately address the extent of the destruction suffered by farmers. The association has demanded full compensation for affected farmers and enhanced security measures to prevent further incidents, urging relevant authorities to act swiftly to ensure justice and peace in the community.
