Canada Increases Nigeria Visitor Visa Processing Time
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced an increase in the processing time for visitor visa applications from Nigeria, raising it from 68 days to 76 days. This change will take effect on August 26, 2026, as part of an updated schedule published on August 19, 2026.
The new processing timelines also apply to temporary residence, study permits, work permits, and visitor and super visa applications across several countries. The updated processing times for visitor visas are as follows: Canada, 12 days; India, 31 days; Pakistan, 75 days; Nigeria, 76 days; and the Philippines, 21 days.
Additionally, the work permit processing time for Nigerian nationals remains unchanged at nine weeks. The IRCC processed 1,566,455 temporary residence applications in the first half of 2026, with over 401,000 still pending by the end of June.
