CBN Implements Measures to Enhance Foreign Card Usage in Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a circular dated December 18, 2025, signed by Rita Sike, the Director of Financial Policy and Regulation Department. The circular directs banks and financial institutions to ensure uninterrupted and efficient services for foreign card users in Nigeria.

The initiative seeks to address issues such as transaction declines, unclear pricing systems, and operational bottlenecks affecting foreign cardholders. It emphasizes the need for transparent exchange rates, proper configuration of payment platforms, and compliance with global card scheme standards to facilitate seamless transactions.
