CBN Releases First Fintech Report, Charts Roadmap for Innovation in Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has published its inaugural Fintech Report titled "CBN Fintech Report: Shaping the Future of Fintech in Nigeria." The report provides a comprehensive review of the country's fintech ecosystem and offers a strategic roadmap for sustaining growth and innovation. It assesses Nigeria's fintech landscape, emphasizing core strengths, emerging opportunities, key reforms needed, and challenges faced.

The report underscores the importance of regulatory clarity, market access, infrastructure sharing, compliance costs, and cross-border expansion. Despite challenges, Nigeria has processed nearly 11 billion transactions through the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) Instant Payment (NIP) platform, positioning the country as a leader in real-time payments in Africa.

The report proposes measures to enhance regulatory engagement, streamline processes, strengthen supervisory capacity, and promote coordination across institutions to achieve sustainable outcomes in the fintech sector.
