CCN Supports CAN Against Proposed Hisbah Bill in Niger

The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), specifically its Niger State chapter, has expressed its support for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in opposing the proposed Hisbah Bill currently under consideration by the Niger State House of Assembly. In a statement signed by the state chairman, Rev. Daniel Tsado, the council described the bill as controversial and appealed to Governor Moham Umar Bago not to allow a policing body that could disrupt the longstanding peace and coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the state.

Rev. Tsado, who is also the vicar of Gbaiko Anglican Church in Bosso Local Government Area, emphasized that the introduction of the Hisbah Bill could create unnecessary tension and division among residents. The CCN urged the governor to maintain the peace that has characterized the relationship between the two dominant religions in the state and highlighted that the bill could negatively impact business freedom and worsen the economic challenges currently faced by the state.
