Africa CDC and West Africa States Strengthen Disease Surveillance and Emergency Response Systems

The Africa CDC and West Africa member states, including Nigeria, are intensifying efforts to fortify disease surveillance and emergency response systems, aiming to boost overall public health readiness by 2026. During a technical coordination meeting in Abuja, Dr.

Alinon Kokou emphasized the importance of meeting global emergency response benchmarks and addressing challenges such as non-communicable diseases, declining immunization coverage, and the need for innovative health promotion strategies. The Africa CDC pledged to support countries in enhancing their National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) and mobilizing domestic resources to address public health program shortfalls.
