The team's performance notably declined, suffering seven defeats in the last ten matches, including five consecutive losses in the Premier League, marking the club's worst run in front of goal since 1912. The final straw came on Tuesday night, coinciding with the club's FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United scheduled for Sunday.

Chelsea's ownership group, led by Behdad Eghbali, decided to act swiftly in light of the recent slump, which prompted an immediate reassessment of Rosenior's position.
