China Announces New Global AI Cooperation Organization

During the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, Chinese Premier Li Qian announced plans to establish a new international AI organization headquartered in China. This initiative aims to provide a counterweight to U.S. technological leadership in artificial intelligence.

The announcement coincided with the Trump administration unveiling its own AI export strategy to maintain American supremacy in the field. Premier Li criticized U.S. efforts as attempts to monopolize AI development and warned against technology becoming an exclusive game for a few countries.

He referred to U.S. export controls on high-end AI chips and equipment. In contrast, China pledged to share its AI advancements with developing nations, positioning itself as a champion of equitable technology access amid growing U.S.-China tech rivalry.

Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu revealed that the proposed AI organization would invite 30 countries, including Russia, South Africa, and Germany, to join. The conference featured 800 exhibitors, including major tech firms, and highlighted the challenges posed by U.S. sanctions and talent exchange restrictions.
