China to Eliminate Tariffs for Nigeria Starting May 1

On a recent Saturday announcement, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that China will scrap tariffs for Nigeria and other African nations beginning May 1. This decision is part of China's ongoing commitment to strengthen trade relations with Africa, where it is already the largest trade partner.

Last year, China maintained a zero tariff policy for imports from 33 African nations, and this new extension will apply to 53 diplomatic partner countries. The initiative is a significant aspect of China's Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to enhance infrastructure projects across the region.

It is noteworthy that the zero tariff policy will not apply to imports imposed by former U.S. President tariffs from the previous year.

This move is expected to bolster trade and economic cooperation between China and African nations.
