China Advances AI Strategy for Smart Economy Development

China's recent government work report, submitted during the two sessions of the National Legislature, marks a pivotal moment in the country's AI strategy, advocating for the creation of a "smart economy." Zhou Li, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a professor at Peking University Guanghua School of Management, emphasized that AI is transitioning from a mere efficiency tool to a foundational element of the economic system. The report outlines plans for the application of AI in various sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, and public services, and stresses the importance of developing a robust AI ecosystem.

Qian Gang, chairman of CITIC Pacific Special Steel Group, highlighted the company's initiative to develop 100 AI vertical models to support intelligent manufacturing. The report also indicates a comprehensive phase in China's AI strategy, focusing on large-scale commercial applications and the integration of AI into real-world business scenarios, with a goal to advance these initiatives through the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).
