Clearlake Capital Takes Full Control of Chelsea After Boehly Exit

US investment firm Clearlake Capital has acquired complete ownership of Chelsea FC by purchasing stakes from Todd Boehly and Mark Walter.
Clearlake Capital now possesses sole ownership of Chelsea Football Club following its acquisition of stakes from Todd Boehly and Mark Walter, both American investors. This major restructuring of the Premier League club's ownership was announced in mid-September.
Boehly, who served as chairman from 2022 onward, relinquished that role pursuant to the deal. Prior to this transaction, the club's ownership was distributed among multiple parties.
Clearlake held 61.5 per cent, whereas Boehly, Walter, and billionaire Hansjörg Wyss of Switzerland each possessed 12.8 per cent. Under the revised structure, Clearlake exercises complete authority; Wyss, however, continues as a vital stakeholder within the ownership consortium.
Since its 2006 founding, the firm has administered more than $185 billion across its global investment portfolio. Behdad Eghbali and José E.
Feliciano, the investment company's co-founders, helm Clearlake Capital. The acquisition of these ownership interests reportedly cost approximately £1 billion, with Chelsea valued by insiders at roughly £5 billion overall.
This shift in governance takes place some four years after the initial partnership—comprising Boehly, Walter, and Wyss—acquired the club from Roman Abramovich. Clearlake intends to continue funding the institution's infrastructure and competitive performance objectives.
Through consolidating full ownership within one investor entity, the firm has centralized decision-making authority, superseding the earlier structure where multiple stakeholders shared influence over affairs at Stamford Bridge.
