Slow Adoption of CNG in Nigeria Due to Refueling Station Shortage

The adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Nigeria is hindered by a shortage of refueling stations, despite its cost being 74% less than petrol. The Presidential Initiative on CNG and the Federal CNG program aim to expand the use of CNG and electric vehicles.

However, with only 68 auto gas stations and 369 conversion centers in the country, the current infrastructure remains insufficient. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and NIPCO Gas have commissioned new CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos, but more stations are needed to support the growing demand for CNG as a fuel alternative.
