CSATD to Protest Over Mele Kyari Financial Misconduct

The Civil Society Alliance for Transparency and Development (CSATD) has announced plans for an indefinite protest at the National Assembly beginning on July 28, 2026. This protest aims to demand a thorough and transparent investigation into allegations of financial misconduct involving Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and his management team.

CSATD, led by Comrade Mohammed Basah, criticized public institutions for failing to address allegations related to refinery rehabilitation projects, crude-for-fuel arrangements, and other financial matters concerning the NNPCL. The coalition highlighted the detrimental impact of corruption on Nigeria's development and referenced statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics indicating widespread poverty.

CSATD expressed dissatisfaction with the slow legislative responses to these allegations and called for greater transparency from anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, regarding the status of investigations.
