Lagos Commissioner Warns of Population Strain, Emphasizes Urban Planning Efforts

Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, has raised concerns about the growing population pressure on Lagos due to urbanization. In response, the state is intensifying efforts to plan and manage urban spaces efficiently. The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, led by Kamal Lawal, is conducting site assessments to optimize available spaces, particularly along the Lekki-Ajah axis. The state government aims to implement global best practices in urban development to enhance safety, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Olumide highlighted the importance of managing urban spaces effectively to ensure the orderly growth of Lagos amidst rapid urbanization. The state is collaborating with private sector partners like Octagon to deploy pilot projects and develop sustainable urban management strategies. This initiative, supported by officials like Ayokunnu Adesina and Oluwol Sotir, underscores Lagos State's commitment to integrated urban development and resilience planning.
