ADC Questions Tinubu's Absence and Constitutional Compliance

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the National Assembly to clarify the constitutional status of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his absence from Nigeria since August 30. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC questioned whether Tinubu had transmitted the required written declaration to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as mandated by the Constitution.

The ADC highlighted that if the President fails to transmit this declaration within 21 days, the National Assembly must act to empower the Vice-President to perform presidential functions. The party criticized the characterization of Tinubu's trip as a 'working vacation,' asserting that official representation by other officials, such as Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, does not equate to a transfer of presidential powers.

The ADC emphasized that the Constitution does not recognize a 'working vacation' and demanded an explanation from the National Assembly regarding the current arrangement with both the President and Vice-President outside Nigeria.
