Presidency Defends COP30 Delegation Amid Criticism

The Nigerian Presidency defended its delegation to COP30 following criticism from Peter Obi, denying government sponsorship and emphasizing the importance of the delegation for climate negotiations. The delegation, led by former presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, faced backlash for its size of 749 members.

The Presidency clarified that climate talks require a diverse team covering various sectors like energy, finance, environment, transport, agriculture, and security. The delegation included prominent Nigerian business leaders and non-state actors.

The Presidency stressed the need to protect the country's interests in global climate discussions.
