Witnesses Identify Suspects in NYSC Kidnapping Case
During the trial of five suspected kidnappers in Imo State, two witnesses provided crucial testimonies regarding the abduction of 20 prospective NYSC members along the Owerri–Mgbidi–Onitsha expressway. Mr. Light Timothy, a prosecution witness, testified that he observed two of the suspects armed with AK-47 rifles shortly after the kidnapping.
The driver, serving as the third witness, identified the first defendant as the individual who approached his bus with an AK-47 and subsequently led the hostages into the bush. Both witnesses confirmed their identifications during an identification parade at the DSS state office.
Under cross-examination, the defense counsel requested the driver's identity card, which Justice Emeka Orafu verified as resembling the driver. The testimonies and the driver's identity card were admitted into evidence.
The trial was adjourned to November 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2026, for further proceedings.
