Court Denies Lawyer's Bid to Block Video in Corruption Case

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ruled against lawyer Victor Giwa's attempt to halt the playing of a video in his corruption trial. Giwa is defending against allegations of document forgery and impersonation.

During the proceedings, the prosecution argued that the video was relevant and necessary for a just determination of the case. In contrast, Giwa's defense counsel objected, claiming the video was fundamentally defective and inadmissible under Section 84(4) of the Evidence Act, asserting that electronic evidence lacked certification and compliance with legal standards.

The defense cited previous cases to support their argument. However, the prosecution maintained that the video had already been admitted and that the defense did not challenge it properly.

The trial judge ultimately overruled the objections, allowing the video to be played, and reserved the ruling on the motion regarding the video for a later date.
