Wives of Detained Officers Appeal to Tinubu for Justice

The wives of military officers detained for allegedly plotting a coup have made a heartfelt appeal to President Bola Tinubu for access to their husbands and a transparent trial. During a press briefing in Abuja, accompanied by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, the families expressed their distress over the officers being held for 160 days without trial.

Aisha Ibrahim, speaking on behalf of the families, highlighted the uncertainty and anguish they face, emphasizing that their husbands should be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The families criticized the military's inconsistent narratives regarding the arrests and called for an immediate commencement of open trials.

They urged President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to intervene, insisting on their constitutional rights. The families also expressed concerns over the military's previous announcements regarding the investigation's conclusion and the need for transparency in the proceedings.

They seek justice and the safe return of their husbands, appealing for civil society and international monitoring of the case.
