Trial Begins for Suspect Planning Attack on Abuja Schools

The Federal High Court in Abuja began the trial of John Jude Agbo, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly planning an attack on schools in Abuja. The DSS's Michael Jeggo testified that the agency received intelligence regarding the planned attack, which aimed to destroy property and harm students and teachers.

Agbo was arraigned on March 17 on two counts under the Terrorism (Prevention) Prohibition Act 2022 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act 2024. The prosecution presented evidence, including gadgets used by Agbo and a list of targeted schools, such as Premier International School and Oakland International School.

The defense, represented by Hamza Dantani, cross-examined Jeggo, who confirmed the intelligence that led to Agbo's arrest. The court admitted several exhibits, including audio-visual recordings of Agbo's statements.

The trial was adjourned to May 12 to allow the prosecution to bring additional witnesses.
