Nigerian Court Convicts Nnamdi Kanu on Terrorism Charges for Inciting Violence

The Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of IPOB, on three counts of terrorism charges for inciting violence and issuing threats against the Nigerian government through incendiary broadcasts. Justice James Omotosho declared that the prosecution convincingly demonstrated Kanu's role in encouraging violence and intensifying separatist agitation in the South East.

Despite Kanu's failure to disprove the evidence presented, the court found his actions to be beyond political advocacy, constituting direct incitement capable of triggering widespread violence. The court also reaffirmed that IPOB remains a proscribed organization under Nigerian law.

Kanu's sentencing is pending.
