Court to Rule on PDP Leadership Dispute on July 17

The Federal High Court in Abuja has set a judgment date for July 17 at 4 PM in a suit led by Kabir Turaki, a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Justice Salim Ibrahim will deliver the judgment following the conclusion of arguments in a leadership dispute within the PDP.

The suit was initiated by members loyal to former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, who are seeking to compel INEC to recognize the interim national working committee (NWC) headed by Turaki and to publish its details on the commission's official website. The plaintiffs argue that a letter dated May 4 submitted to INEC reflects the commission's records.

The legal team includes notable figures such as Wabara, former Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and former Information Minister Jerry Gana. However, a faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike challenged the court's jurisdiction and sought to join the suit, arguing that the PDP was not authorized to file the suit.

The court has reserved judgment on the matter.
