Court to Rule on El-Rufai's No-Case Submission in October

The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled a ruling for October 26, 2026, on the no-case submission filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in his trial concerning alleged unlawful interception of telephone communication. During the hearing, prosecuting counsel Oluwole Aladedoye, SAN, stated that the day's agenda was for the defense to adopt El-Rufai's no-case submission.
Defense counsel Akinyemi Aremu informed the court that Paul Erokoro, SAN, the lead counsel, was delayed but requested to stand down the matter, which Justice Joyce Abdulmalik declined. Aremu then sought permission for co-counsel Ekere to proceed.
Ekere moved for an extension of time to properly file and serve the no-case submission, which the judge granted. He argued that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case.
In response, Aladedoye urged the court to dismiss the submission, citing a confession by the defendant. Justice Abdulmalik then adjourned the case for the ruling.
