Court nullifies Ekiti PDP LG congress, upholds ward executives

The Ekiti State High Court has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government congress held in May 2025, declaring it invalid. The court upheld the ward congress conducted on March 15, 2025, which produced new party executives across the state in 177 wards.

Justice Bamidele Omotosho cited established legal principles in delivering the judgment, emphasizing that suits based on charlatan claims must be acted upon. The court recognized the claimant as the duly elected chairman of the delegate Ward 1 Local Government, as stipulated in the PDP 2024 guidelines.

The judge also declared the delegate list submitted by the defendant as invalid, contravening the Electoral Act 2022 and the PDP Constitution. The court issued a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from recognizing or using the disputed delegate list.

PDP chieftain Funsho Ayeni welcomed the decision, urging party members to close ranks for reconciliation and unity ahead of the June.
