Court Orders Permanent Forfeiture of $49,700 Seized From Ex-INEC Commissioner

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled for the permanent forfeiture of $49,700 recovered from a former INEC commissioner in Sokoto State during the 2023 general elections. The order followed a motion by the ICPC, citing corrupt practices.

The court had earlier granted a temporary forfeiture order, with no claims of ownership from any individual or group. The funds were recovered during a search operation by the DSS and ICPC at the ex-commissioner's residence in Kano.

The court found the application meritorious and ordered the funds to be forfeited to the federal government.
