Court Reserves Judgment on INEC's 2027 Election Appeals

The Abuja Division of the Court has reserved judgment on two separate appeals filed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the timeline for the 2027 elections. The appeals were heard by a panel led by Justice Adebukola Bankole.

INEC is seeking to overturn judgments from the Federal High Court, which granted relief to the Youth Party of Nigeria (YPN) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Justice Moham Umar of the Federal High Court had previously ruled in favor of YPN, nullifying the electoral guidelines set by INEC, while Justice Jame Omotosho granted relief to SDP.

INEC's appeals argue that these judgments limit its powers regarding the conduct of elections. Dr.

Alex Izinyon SAN represented INEC in the appeals, while Akinwal Irokosun represented YPN. The court has reserved its ruling on these matters, which will be communicated to the parties involved.
