Court Halts Demolition at Disputed Lagos Property

The Lagos State High Court, presided over by Justice Yetunde Adesanya, has issued a pre-emptive order to halt any further demolition, excavation, or construction on a disputed property located at 168 Broad Street, Lagos Island. This ruling came after Dr Abimbola Adebowale filed an application claiming that the property was partially demolished before Taiwo Yusuf allegedly took possession and began preparations for development.

The dispute arose from a 48-hour enforcement notice issued by the Lagos Island Local Government on August 6, 2026, which directed occupants to vacate the property and remove illegal structures. Adebowale alleged that after the notice, Yusuf forcefully evicted tenants and began demolition at night, barricading the premises with aluminium zinc.

Babatunde Bello, a staff member of United Capital Trustee Limited, stated that the company had managed the property since 2016 without issues until the alleged encroachment. Adebowale's lawyer, Waheed Isiaka, argued for the preservation of the property pending the completion of pre-action protocols.

Justice Adesanya ruled that Adebowale met the necessary conditions for the pre-emptive remedy.
