Edo Court Halts EDSIEC and Govt From Conducting By-Elections

The Edo State High Court in Benin City has halted the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) and the State Government from conducting by-elections across 59 wards. The court order, granted following an ex parte motion by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), prevents the filling of councillor positions until September 2026.

The PDP argued that declaring the seats vacant would be unlawful as the councillors' tenure remains valid. Justice Mary Itsueli issued the restraining order, citing sufficient grounds for court intervention.
