CPPE Warns Against Trade Restrictions for Domestic Value Addition in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu advocates for local alternatives to promote domestic value addition, particularly in agriculture and solid minerals, as part of broader industrialization efforts.

CPPE warns that poorly designed value addition policies could harm primary producers, especially farmers and rural communities, by distorting market prices and perpetuating rural poverty. The think tank emphasizes the need to address structural cost constraints to enhance competitiveness and avoid inefficiencies in industrial growth, urging a shift towards strategies that promote shared prosperity across value chains.
