Nigeria's U-19 Women Secure World Cup Spot with Win

Nigeria's Junior Female Yellow Greens, captained by Christabel Chukwuonye, achieved a remarkable victory against Zimbabwe by four runs in the final of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier held at the ESTIM Ground in Tanzania on Saturday. Chukwuonye expressed her emotional response, stating she cried after the match due to the significance of the win, which not only crowned Nigeria as champions but also secured their spot in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027 in Bangladesh and Nepal.

Nigeria set a total of 98 runs, with Chukwuonye contributing 21 runs. Zimbabwe, in their chase, fell short at 94 runs, with Nigeria's bowlers, led by Peace Usen, who took three wickets, maintaining composure under pressure.

This victory capped an unbeaten campaign for Nigeria, who had previously defeated Uganda, Malawi, and Tanzania in the group stage and Rwanda in the semi-final. Nigeria will join South Africa as Africa's representatives at the upcoming World Cup.
