Woman Sentenced to Eight Years for Unregistered Pharmacies

Ezea Isidora Kamchukwub was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Federal High Court in Calabar for operating two unregistered pharmacies in Cross River State. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu found Kamchukwub guilty of illegal operations under the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Establishment Act 2022.

The case, filed as FHC/CA/76C/2025, revealed that Kamchukwub operated a 24-hour pharmacy along Marian Road, opposite Kokoz Cosmetic Shop, and another on Abang Asang Street, Etta Agbor Road, without proper registration. The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria had previously sealed her shops during routine inspections but she continued to operate them unlawfully.

The court's decision was supported by Aliyu Okayod, Deputy Director of the Federal Ministry of Justice, representing the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Counsel for the defense, Ekp Esor, declined to comment on the case after the sentencing.
