CSOs Demand Transparent Revival Plan for Ajaokuta Steel

Civil society organizations (CSOs) have expressed strong disapproval of the alleged Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company, calling for a transparent revival plan. The coalition, led by national coordinator Mohan Attah and national secretary Ayo Adebusoy, stated that Nigeria cannot afford to let the long-abandoned steel complex remain unfulfilled.

They acknowledged the federal government's efforts to attract foreign investment but criticized the lack of tangible industrial development resulting from such agreements. The CSOs warned that the upcoming 2027 general elections should not be approached with mere political promises, stressing the importance of a clear implementation roadmap for the steel plant.

They urged the government to publish a comprehensive plan that includes local content prioritization and technology transfer. The coalition is willing to collaborate with the federal government and other stakeholders to ensure that the Ajaokuta Steel Company becomes operational by 2027, emphasizing that Nigerians deserve a fully functional industrial project.
