CUPP Condemns Attack on Peter Obi in Edo State

On Thursday, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) condemned a violent attack on Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), which occurred in Benin City, Edo State. The incident took place on Tuesday when unidentified gunmen trailed Obi's convoy after he left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat and opened fire, damaging vehicles and property.

CUPP characterized the assault as a premeditated, state-sponsored act of terror aimed at silencing opposition voices in Nigeria. The statement, issued by CUPP spokesperson Comrade Mark Adebayo, recalled previous threats made by Edo State Governor Mondai Okpebholo, who had warned Obi against entering the state without prior clearance, suggesting that Obi's security was not guaranteed.

This attack highlights a dangerous pattern of political intimidation and physical harm against political opponents in Nigeria.
