Nigeria Customs Foils Pangolin Smuggling in Kano

On March 26, 2026, the Nigeria Customs Service's Federal Operations Unit Zone B successfully intercepted live pangolins during an anti-smuggling operation along the Kano-Takai-Jigawa road. This operation, reported by the unit's public relations officer Malarab, follows a similar operation on March 12, indicating a heightened crackdown on wildlife trafficking in the area.

The statement emphasized the importance of surveillance across key transit routes used by smugglers. The pangolins were discovered concealed in a suspicious vehicle during routine patrols.

The Customs Service noted that the seizure aligns with international treaties prohibiting the trade of endangered species. Aminu Sule, the comptroller of the unit, ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify the syndicate behind the trafficking.

He reiterated the agency's commitment to enforcing environmental laws and warned smugglers to desist, highlighting the region's role as a corridor for illicit wildlife trade.
