Court Dismisses Sowore's No-Case Submission on Cyberbullying

The court dismissed Omoyele Sowore's no-case submission on May 19, 2023, regarding charges filed against him by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly calling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a criminal on social media. Justice Umar ruled that the DSS successfully established a prima facie case against Sowore, indicating that the evidence provided was sufficient to warrant a defense.

Sowore's counsel, Marshal Abubakar, attempted to appeal the ruling, arguing that important matters needed to be presented to the court, while DSS lawyer Akinlolu Kehinde insisted on proceeding to trial. Sowore accused the judge of bias and requested recusal, which was denied.

The judge instructed Sowore to file a formal application for recusal and set the next hearing for May 19, 2023, where Sowore will present his defense against the charges.
