Dangote Plans World's Largest Refinery Expansion to 1.4M Barrels/Day in Nigeria

Dangote Group, led by Nigerian billionaire Dangote, unveils plans to expand its refinery in Nigeria to 1.4 million barrels per day, making it the world's largest. The project seeks to double the current capacity, attract Middle Eastern funding, and turn Nigeria into a net exporter of diesel, jet fuel, and petrol.

The move aligns with efforts to enhance Africa's energy independence, combat rising petrol imports, and stimulate economic growth. Dangote also aims to increase polypropylene capacity and develop a linear alkylbenzene base oil project.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects a global need for 11.4 million barrels per day in refining capacity within five years, with a focus on China and India. Dangote emphasizes the importance of Africa reducing fuel imports and investing in large-scale projects to avoid market disruptions and economic challenges.
