Dangote Projects Claims World's Largest Construction Fleet

Dangote Projects Ltd, the construction arm of Dangote Industries Limited, has announced it possesses the world's largest construction fleet, comprising nearly 7,000 pieces of equipment. Edwin Devakumar, Group Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, made this claim during a briefing on Friday, coinciding with Kenyan President William Ruto's visit to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos.

Initially, the company acquired 2,563 pieces of equipment, including 320 cranes, for the refinery project. Due to the Nigerian construction industry's limited capacity, Dangote expanded its fleet by over 4,000 additional machines.

This strategic decision allowed the company to build the necessary construction capacity for the refinery and subsequent projects. The refinery project also necessitated the production of concrete on-site and the development of accommodation for 50,000 workers, with a peak workforce of 63,000.

The site was largely undeveloped, requiring significant preparatory work, including the use of swamp buggies. Dangote is also preparing for a new refinery project in Lamu, Kenya, with groundbreaking scheduled for September 30, 2026.
