Dangote Refinery Plans 1.4M BPD Expansion by 2029

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is targeting an expansion to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2029, as stated by Mr. Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas and Fertiliser at Dangote Industries Limited, during a facility tour in Lagos. The refinery is currently operating at 700,000 bpd, exceeding its designed capacity by 50,000 bpd.

Edwin reported that basic engineering for the expansion is complete, with detailed engineering substantially concluded. Most equipment for the next phase has been ordered, major contracts signed, and advance payments made to contractors.

The expansion is expected to be less expensive than the initial phase due to existing infrastructure. The refinery is designed to process various crude grades and aims to maximize petrol output, which constitutes 53% of its production capacity.

The expansion will also increase petrochemical production and enhance fuel quality standards. The project will be financed through operating cash flow.
