Dangote Expands into Steel, Power, and Ports in Africa

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has announced a strategic expansion plan targeting the steel industry, power generation, and port development to enhance industrialization across Africa. This initiative is part of a long-term goal to deepen Africa's manufacturing base beyond oil refining.

The Dangote Group, known for its operations in cement, sugar, salt, and fertilizers, is currently focused on its flagship project, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which is expected to produce 650,000 barrels of refined products daily, with plans to double this output within three years. The expansion is anticipated to create 40 to 50 million new jobs in Nigeria by 2030, with the refinery alone currently employing 30,000 workers, 80% of whom are Nigerian.

Despite challenges such as infrastructural gaps and logistical bottlenecks, Dangote emphasizes the importance of large-scale industrial projects in transforming Nigeria's economic landscape and reducing import dependence.
