Defence Ministry Urges Timely Pension Payments for Veterans

On Saturday, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, called on the Military Pension Board (MPB) to prioritize timely pension payments for retired military personnel.

This statement was made during his visit to the MPB headquarters in Abuja, where he highlighted the critical role of the board in ensuring the welfare of retired armed forces personnel. Pheelangwah emphasized that timely pension payments are a moral obligation of the nation and are essential for the livelihood and well-being of veterans, who are considered valuable national assets.

He warned that delays in pension administration could have significant implications for the families of retirees. The Permanent Secretary encouraged the board to continue strengthening its systems to improve efficiency and ensure smooth disbursement of pensions.

He reiterated the Ministry's full support for the board's initiatives, stressing that efficient pension administration is a key component of the welfare architecture for sustaining service to retired military personnel. AVM Mikail Abdullraheem, the board's chairman, pledged the board's unwavering commitment to serving retirees.
