Nigerian Vigilantes Open Fire on Nigerien Soldiers in Katsina, DHQ Intervenes

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) addressed an incident where local vigilantes in Katsina mistakenly fired on Nigerien soldiers fetching water in Mazanya. Major Gen Michael Onoja assured that the situation was under control and measures were being taken to prevent such occurrences.

The incident occurred due to a misunderstanding, but dialogue between Nigerian and Nigerien security authorities de-escalated the situation. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and border security.

Residents were urged to remain calm, and efforts were underway to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.
